COVID-19: 5 Tips For Staying Productive While Working From Home

Working remotely is a challenge for most people who depend on the office environment to keep them going at work. It sounds like fun when you don’t have to wake up at the crack of dawn to commute to work, and your bed is always available, but working from home can become boring, unproductive and even lonely.

If unchecked, you may become lax and unfocused when you don’t have the push of waking up and hitting the road. But who says you cannot enjoy a productive time working from home?

Here are five (5) tips to help you.

1. Maintain your normal routine

Did you have a morning routine before now? Then stick to it.

Wake up at your usual time, take a shower, eat, listen to music etc. Whatever gets you going in the morning, do it.

Experts advise that having a designated work area away from your bed will help you stay focused. So, as difficult as it may seem, get away from that bed!

2. Write Out Daily To-Dos

It’s easier to stick with a to-do list instead of leaving your tasks up in the air. It keeps you more organised, and checking them off as you finish can be very satisfying. It also helps you to prioritise and prevents time-wasting.

3. Don’t Get Carried Away By Chores

We get it, you have more time now so you want to get all the chores you’ve been putting off done -don’t succumb to that. This can be incredibly distracting, especially if you have deadlines. The chores will still be there when you’re done with work.


4. Limit Social Media to Break-time

You could get carried away by what’s happening offline and your work will suffer. Instead of glancing at your phone every 5 minutes, wait until your designated break before you check social media.

Set hours for yourself to get up and stretch, unwind, eat or snack, and finally catch up on your chats on WhatsApp or all the gist on twitter.

5. Stay Connected With The Team

Zoom, Workspace, Slack, Skype, WhatsApp Groups, Asana…if you don’t know what these are, then you’ve been far behind for a long time.
